Simple choices we make every day can improve human well-being and reduce environmental risks.
As a former science teacher, I would like to encourage all families to share with their
children the importance of recycling, reusing, and renewing everyday items found in the home.
How much do you really know about recycling? Here are just a few facts to keep in mind:
-17 trees are saved per every ton of recycled paper
-By recycling a ton of paper, we save 7,000 gallons of water, and 380 gallons of oil
-40% of landfill waste is paper
-36 two-liter plastic bottles produce 1 square yard of carpet
-It takes glass containers from a recycling bin back to the store shelf just 30 days
-Recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt bulb burning for 4 hours
-1.7 billion pounds can be diverted from a landfill just by recycling
